In the days leading up to April 18th, Rip Rap rock and a small load of brown mulch was dropped off in key places to await the work crew that would be coming using the Stoney Creek dumping trailer. The trailer was parked in the basin area for the night and moved into the basin to make loading easier later.
Workday began at 7:45 am on the 18th, getting the detention basis equipment and supplies ready for the crew of twelve persons to complete many tasks.
At 8:30 am the first four workers arrived and two of them started to trim back briars near mulberry tree at the top of the berm to make travel around the top easier. The other two trimmed the “suckers” on the Sycamore side of the basin. In addition, the snacks of watermelon, grapes, chocolate chip cookies, donuts, water and coffee arrived and were set up around the sign in table.
Slightly after nine AM the remaining crew arrived and began the cleanup items of trash, pinecone, branch and leaves collection. These items were moved from in the basin to the awaiting trailer that would eventually be emptied into the Maidencreek Composting collection area. It is a rewarding feeling seeing the progress being made through-out the morning. The crew cutting briar completed and move on to mulching the pollinator bushes during this hour. A small contingent spent the hour finding and removing saplings from the basin floor.
Having cleaned the basin, an additional two yards of Stoney Run 8″ – 16″ from Berks Soil and Stone was “carefully thrown” from the upper landing into the rip rap (where the water exits the storm water pipes into the basin) to reduce water speed and lessen erosion. This burst of excitement was completed and the crews move into snacks, drinks and time to connect with your neighbors.
I would like to Thank the persons that attended this workday and share some pictures of the day.
